Our Offer 2025/2026

Additional Opportunities

Inspiring Choices collaborate with local universities, charities, and employers to deliver bespoke workshops, events and activities for young people in our region. Below you will find details of activities we offer. Each opportunity is fully funded by Inspiring Choices and their partners.

Further information about these opportunities can be requested by contacting the programme.

We are targeted to areas where few young people progress to higher education and offer different levels of support to schools and colleges.

Access to these activities is limited.  If you are interested, please get in touch with your Outreach Coordinator.

Project Dare

Project Dare is an exciting opportunity for a group of students to collaborate with a local employer. Project Dare involves 2-3 total sessions with an employer (typically 1-2 at York St John University and the final session at the employer site), where the employer presents a business situation or project to the students. Working in groups, the students create a presentation and solution, which in the final session they present at the employer site. Past employers have included: Hiscox, Nestle and ARUP. Project Dare is run in partnership with York Cares.

STEM Conference

The STEM Conference is a full day event organised by Inspiring Choices in partnership with the National Railway Museum in York. The conference is for year 9 students from a few schools across North Yorkshire and its purpose is to offer young people a glimpse into the many different subjects that are on offer through further and higher education, as well as giving an insight to what different STEM careers might look like.

Creativity Lab

This year we are offering the chance for groups of students to visit the new Creativity Lab at the University of York. The Creativity Lab focuses on digital creativity, including 3D design, 3D scanning and Virtual Reality.

The session would take place either in a morning or an afternoon, with lunch on campus and a tour included.

Subject Specific

Based at York St. John University, Inspiring Choices work with academics and professionals in a number of different fields to run high-quality, subject-specific activities with young people in our region. Some of the possible subjects include, media & journalism, drama, history and criminology. As these are delivered with the support of professionals, availability is extremely limited, so we cannot guarantee these for everyone interested, but please do let an Outreach Coordinator know if you are interested.

Groundwork

Groundwork is a federation of charities mobilising practical community action on poverty and the environment across the UK. Working with Inspiring Choices, Groundwork deliver a programme of activities to young people in schools and colleges across North Yorkshire.

The programme is delivered over 6 full days either in school or at a local community green space. Learners undertake a range of soft and hard landscaping, gaining work ready skills as well as a NOCN Level 1 in Horticulture. Inspiring Choices also provide a visit to Askham Bryan College including course taster sessions, lunch, and a tour of the wildlife park. We have found, consistently, that behaviour, attendance, and attainment has improved as a result of engaging with the programme.

Please let your Outreach Coordinator know if you are interested.
