Hi, I’m Julie. I’m one of the Outreach Assistants based at Selby College. I’m fairly new to FutureHY, I joined the team in Autumn 2021.

I live in East Yorkshire but I’m originally from Newcastle. I have a degree in TV and Film Design and a PGCE teaching qualification. I currently teach Art and Media but have taught other creative subjects including Performing Arts, Fashion and Music Technology.

Even as a young child, I always knew I would go university. When I was at college, I had no idea of where to study so with my Young Person’s Railcard in tow, I attended quite a few open days to get a feel for the campus. I decided on Hull as it was only a two-hour drive away from home and the degree course sounded ideal with four pathways to choose from – graphic design, illustration, animation and moving image design. After university, I worked for a media company which supplied news, entertainment and sport data to a range of print-based and online clients. During this time, I started training new employees which inspired me to do a PGCE in further and adult education.

In my spare time, I enjoy doing the odd art and crafts project such as greeting cards, embroidery samples and artwork based on iconic music album covers. I play netball once a week in York and being a qualified umpire, you’re likely to find me on court blowing my whistle nearly every night!

I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead, meeting new people and working with the team. I’m excited about delivering the new packages and seeing how learners understand how they can reach their potential.
