Hello! What is your name, where are you based and what is your job title?
Hi everyone! My name is Daniel Smith or just Dan for short. I work for the University of York as a Graduate Access and Outreach Coordinator
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I was born in Belgium but lived in Yorkshire most of my life. This may have filled me with the love of travel and it’s my aim to get to every single continent and after that every single country! In my spare time I like to play video games, watch movies, write both fiction and non-fiction and cook amazing vegan food.
Tell us about your background…
I studied History at the University of York for 3 years and graduated in 2019. Before university I worked part-time in a high street clothes store and while studying, I worked as a cocktail bartender for a popular bar in York.
What are you looking forward to most about working on the Uni Connect project?
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and helping all participating students to get the absolute most out of Uni Connect as well as be involved in all the exciting new project!
Why do you think going to college and/or university is important?
I think going into further and higher education is important to expanding the way we look at the world and ourselves. It gives you the chance to meet people from outside your usual sphere and try new things. I changed so much in my time at university and I couldn’t be happier but it wouldn’t have happened without meeting all my friends at university.
What is your top tip for someone thinking about going to university?
My top tip would be to consider every aspect of where you want to study. Does the course contain what you want/need, is there good accommodation for students, do they have any societies and sports I would want to join and is the city/town somewhere I would be happy to live? If you take everything into account before making your decision you won’t be disappointed upon arriving at your chosen location
