About us

Laura Fenwick

Research and Impact Evaluation Officer

What made you want to work for the Inspiring Choices programme?

Initially, I applied for the Data Assistant role, and it was as part time role which meant I could fit it around my studies. It gave me more structure to the week than my previous job as I worked the same days each week (but also flexible if I needed to change them), which again helped with planning other commitments. It also paid more than my previous job and was more inline with my career interests.

What does your ideal workday look like?

Having some company in the office. Probably pulling out some data to support our projects or doing some data cleaning. Cleaning the data makes me feel like a detective, unpicking the problems for why things don’t match and trying to find the answers.

What is something about yourself that you are proud of?

Completing my PhD (almost) has been tough. It has taken a lot  longer to complete the process than expected. It has also been really challenging to maintain a work/study/life balance, but it has helped me to develop a lot of my skills, including writing, project planning and data analysis.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

Netball – I love netball and I would play and watch all day if I could.

If you could be a guest on a TV show which show would it be?

Maybe something like Sewing Bee, I wouldn’t be very good at it, but I think it would be fun to have a go.

What have you read or watched recently and enjoyed?

I recently got a Disney + subscription, so I have been enjoying watching the animated movies from my childhood. Hercules and Mulan and still some of my favourite films.

What would be your ideal superpower?

Hmm being super stretchy like Elasta Girl/Mrs Incredible. I think it could be quite useful but also not too showy.

You’re stranded on a desert island, what is one thing you can’t live without?

I’d rather be stranded on a DESSERT island; more cake and less sand.
